another update for you

What have we been up to?

Working on the game, of course.

what’s the game about anyway?

We didn’t mention much about it the first few posts, making a few vague statements. We’ve posted a few images on our instagram, @sleepytalongames, and a video or two.

We’ve got some ghosts for you. You’ll be navigating a quirky 2D world in search of a way home. To do this, they need to discover some mysteries and collect some important items that will help them return to their spirit world.

We’re looking to capture a lighthearted side of the spooky genre and create an experience you can enjoy on your own or with friends for a few minutes (or a few hours) some evening.

actual work: getting a handle on Steamworks

We started getting the multiplayer functions going with steam this past month. Our plans to release on steam this year or so are still looking good. In order to take full advantage of the release and learn as much as we can, we’re trying a lot of the staples.

Achievements, joining friend lobbies, and maybe some others, are all available to us now. The Steamworks API is pretty easy to understand and having achievements pop up in the game is a nice touch.

A Test Achievement
Oh!

Additionally, it’s pretty cool to see our little game have a (private, only we can see it right now) page in our steam launchers!

game updates

This past month we made a serious effort to get the main features of the game completed. With a few more playtests ahead of us, we’re hoping to zero in on what we need to finish up so that we can start finalizing the content, and everything that goes with that!

what have we been playing?

Pokémon Crystal Cover
which did you choose?
One of us had to go on a trip for work and started playing Pokémon Crystal, the analogue pocket travels better than a steam deck (if you can get one.) Pokémon Crystal is great, gen 2 is a great nostalgia play if you don’t have someone in your ear telling you how terrible it was.

The other got roped into trying Marvel Rivals. It’s been fairly popular since it came out in December. The review on that after a couple hours is that it’s a better version of Overwatch. Probably subjective, we aren’t pro-grade FPS gamers.

There were also some other things to marvel at in the game 👀

Venom's Backside
Hmm...

what’s next?

Like we said last month, few big features are left to implement but the list is getting smaller. After that, we’ll have more to share. Maybe it should be a dedicated post.

Maybe we’ll even have artwork or a store page to share, sometime. Soon…
